about

Fakescape was J of the Casual Distractions, who came in one day and told us he had been listening to a lot of vintage RevCo and Nitzer Ebb and wanted to knock off his own batch of lo-fi industrial pop.

"It'll be easy," he said. "The songs are simple. I'll be out of here in a couple days."

Months later, the studio was still chock full of his blinking boxes. He had used every one of our power strips, alarming the local fire department.

Fortunately for us, the Distractions soon had to depart for their extended tour of Thailand, which was another story entirely, and J had to pack up. At that point, the cover of Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence" had no vocals. J promised to complete them after the tour; however, in his absence, Randy Rabbit of the Irascible Bastards had a listen and decided to do the vocals himself. The Distractions were outraged on their return but had to admit that Randy had done a good job. T Bone mixed the track, and the result is what you hear here.

Track Name: Dropout
faKescaPe: dropout;

another pointless song
to help you get along
they say you reap what you sow
so I don't care to watch this grow

looking for the big delete
from now on I walk the one way street

lalalala
lalalala

every word that they say
is a way to sink the day
overwhelmed by mental fluff
i had to climb out of that stuff

lalalala
lalalala

take away the daily noise
of all the girls and boys
take away the sport
take away my cynical retort

Track Name: Mantra
faKescaPe: mantra;

i can explain my behavior
i can explain the things I do

i lock up all the doors
i turn out the lights
i open all the drawers
i get into fights
the telephone is
pulled from the wall
don't try to reach me
don't try to call

i do the things
i'm told to do
i do it all for me
i do it all for you

i can explain
i can explain

i can explain my behavior
i can explain the things I do

i don't go out the door
i never drive my car
i'm tearing up the floor
i'm watching from afar
i'm blacking out
the window panes
i'm shutting off the power
i'm plugging all the drains

i do the things
i'm told to do
i do it all for me
i do it all for you

i can explain
i can explain

Track Name: Enjoy the Silence

<@author martin L. gore

words like violence
break the silence
come crashing in
into my little world
painful to me
pierce right through me
can't you understand
oh my little girl

all I ever wanted
all I ever needed
is here in my arms
words are very unnecessary
they can only do harm

vows are spoken
to be broken
feelings are intense
words are trivial
pleasures remain
so does the pain
words are meaningless
and forgettable

all I ever wanted
all I ever needed
is here in my arms
words are very unnecessary
they can only do harm

enjoy the silence
